I had a fabulous time at the recent BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking Festival 2017 at Sage Gateshead. The theme this year was The Speed of Life This was explored in a series of fascinating discussions and sessions which included former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill, poet Simon Armitage and Ian McMillan of The Verb.
Even my own dear hubby took part in the live broadcast of a jazz programme from the festival with his request for Tyne Crossing by Northumbrian piper Kathryn Tickell and saxophonist Andy Shepherd. Then it was my time to be in front of the microphone, when as producer for listenupnorth, I was asked to step into the BBC Radio 3 portable recording booth and contribute to a discussion about the festival, run by fellow podcasters ArtyParti who are based at Spark FM in Sunderland. It was quite a different experience to be at the other side of the microphone, but thanks to Jay, RJ and Emma it was great fun.
Enjoy the broadcast for yourselves:

Glad to report another productive day in inspirational surroundings at our latest writing retreat in The Garden Cottage at Gibside. The sun shone brightly and our writers took full advantage of the lovely private garden to find a quite spot with their pen and for a relaxing outdoor lunch. It’s always great to hear about everyone’s diverse projects – fantasy fiction, preparing piece for their writing group and for a creative writing MA and Sheila who was writing information panels for her forthcoming basket weaving exhhibition. I even got to do some research for my latest writing / audio project.
Sheila invites everyone along to the exhibition Weaving Our History which is touring across Northumberland and Weardale from April to November 2017. For details CLICK HERE
